Hands down, no question about it. Has a little intrigue, a little romance, mystery, history, and some factual information. Having read a bunch of her books, however, I think this one is up there with some of her best.

I love the way this author weaves together real people and events with her characters. I mean, for goodness sakes, tears were welling up in my eyes with frustration at the end. I put this in part to her being 1) someone who does historical reenactments for fun -- and those guys are detail nutty, and 2) a journalist. I took one look at the book and thought that I would hate it.
The protagonist is 14, but the romance and adventure seem older. The way he gets the bodies is that he has people fake families of the unknown soldiers and then they have to give them the bodies and bring them to his laboratory. Then you can start reading Kindle books on your smartphone, tablet, or computer - no Kindle device required. There are so many more possiblities that I have thought up for Emily but I can not possibly write them all!

I found hat this book has more to tell than just the story of Emily Pigbush the book also tells the story of her uncle and, his perilous struggles but through the eyes of Emily. I found the inclusion of the Surratts and specifically the case of Mary Surratt being involved in the conspiracy to kill Lincoln so sad and so interesting. I found this book to be a very good read. I love that Rinaldi uses the backdrop of the end of the Civil War and the death of Lincoln to set things up for the story.
